Damage types have no effects of any kind and only matter in relation to a target's protection against them (i.e. one will do more damage using an acid damage weapon against an opponent which has lower armor resistance to acid).
Damage types are broken into two categories: primary and secondary. This categorization exists only as a measure of their commonality; the majority of weapons in the game are energy or kinetic damage types.
